San Marcos, CA , --Started in 1997, in the memory of the former Wynkoop Brewmaster, the 2018 Russell Scherer award for Brewing Innovation was bestowed upon The Lost Abbey’s Tomme Arthur at the Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville.

Only the 22ndrecipient of the award, Tomme join the likes of Vinnie Cilurzo (Russian River Brewing), Matt Bryndilson (Firestone Walker), and Ken Grossman and Steve Dressler (Sierra Nevada) to name a few of the previous winners from California.

The Russell Scherer award is chosen by previous award winners, selected by a slate of nominees put forth by The Brewers Association.

Having brewed one of the first, if not the first, 100% all Brett beer with former Russell Scherer award recipient Peter Bouckaert, Tomme was also nominated for his achievements with barrel-aged beers including two-time World Beer Cup Winner Red Poppy (’08 and ‘10 Belgian-Style Flanders/Oud Bruin or Oud Red Ale) and five-time Great American Beer Fest winner, Cuvee de Tomme (’00, 01, ’03, ’04, ’07 Wood and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer).
