Smuttynose Releases Summer IPA

Summer IPA is Smuttynose Brewing Company’s newest summer seasonal for 2017, and it’s pretty exciting.  It will be available in bottles and cans and on draft in mid-May, and comes in at a palatable 5% ABV. Because there can never be too many IPAs.

“We wanted to make an IPA that’s perfect for a summer day, and we think we nailed it,” said Peter Egelston, Founder and President of Smuttynose Brewing Company.  “It’s got all the hoppiness and bite of a classic IPA, and it’s perfect for any summer activity.”

Summer IPA’s aroma is both complex and hoppy while perfectly balanced. Look for hints of citrus, and tropical fruits from the Zeus, Citra, Saphir, and Amarillo hops. The only thing more balanced than the aroma is the flavor.  Summer IPA offers subtle malt sweetness on either side of the hops profile, and closes with a crisp, hoppy finish.

Born from a Hatchling

Summer IPA has been in the makings for years. Smuttlabs, our innovative R&D division, has been experimenting with sessionable, full-flavored IPAs, for as long as we’ve had brewing tanks and barrels, which have now been dubbed the Hatchling series. After some tweaking of the malts and hops, we realized we had struck gold. We finalized the recipe, threw it in cans and bottles, and can’t wait to share it with you.

Hatchling #1 is currently available on tap at Smuttynose Brewing Co., and select bars and restaurants throughout the Seacoast and New England. Hatchling #2 and #3 will be available later this summer exclusively at Smuttynose Brewing Co. It will also be available on our Beer Vault, which offers bars and restaurants the chance to purchase brewery-exclusive beers. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more info on each release.
