On the surface this photo may not make much sense to anyone just tuning in. On Thursday, I posted a thread reminding everyone that Breaker Brewing will again be involved in a zoning appeal hearing on Feb 14th, 7PM @ The Wilkes-Barre Twp Municipal Building. The thread ignited an onslaught of comments and discussion from residents, families, friends and even the mother of Edward Collum (the former resident that is appealing the original zoning results.) You can check out the full story & comments here. As of this writing there are over 120 comments so it’s a great read.
As part of that discussion, Mrs. Collum felt very strongly that what she found disrespectful about the use of the former church as part of the future Breaker Brewing property, was the inscription “My God My All” that the diocese chose not to remove. The diocese DID remove what they considered “religious artifacts,” but left the inscription in tact. I spoke with Mark & Chris yesterday, and they agreed to extend an olive branch and take the time to remove the lettering that Mrs. Collum was so concerned about. As it turns out the letters were decals and have been removed already as you can see. The guys also tell me that as soon as things warm up a bit (yes one of the things they are still working on is heat) they will also be painting the area.
I want to thank Mark & Chris for taking the time AND making this gesture and I personally want to thank everyone who has taken the time & energy to comment on the previous thread in their support of Mark & Chris, as well as Mrs. Collum for her participation. I’m confident things will work out for everyone involved and I’ll see you all Tuesday to witness it in person.

This goes to show what type of people that Mark and Chris are. Two hard working, reputable, men just trying to make a living to support their families and hopefully pass on to their children. I pretty sure just as Mrs. C. would do for hers. The olive branch has been extended, Mrs. C. Are you ready to stand up and be as decent as Mark and Chris. They don't want problems, just a peaceful existance in Georgetown in a BUILDING that was, ONCE UPON A TIME, a church.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the 7th day we rest, right? WRONG!!!
ReplyDeleteMuch love to the BBC guys for taking the time to put an end to one of the issues that spiraled out of control from this past week's post. As for today, in my book, it's good guys 1 and the "other" guys..well....i think we all know the score!
Now guys... be sure the paint you use to cover up the remaining decal marks is Diocese approved;) Cheers
I think Mark and Chris are stand up individuals, WHO DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING to make peace with this woman! It goes to show just how upstanding they are!!!! A clear majority want this brewery there and its going to be there!!!! Get over it and move on....go find a new place to pray!!
ReplyDeleteAs a WB parochial school graduate (St Nick’s & Hoban), WB Catholic college graduate (Kings), and Eagle Scout (since that was mentioned too) from WB ... as well as a home-brewer admittedly biased towards BBC, I simply offer my sincerest hope that this gets resolved so that all parties are as happy and relieved as possible. My bias – somewhat obviously – leads me to hope that the brewpub will be open soon for business. Good luck Mark and Chris. Cheers ... Eli Gallagher.
ReplyDeletethank you, Mark...from one of the "other" guys.
ReplyDeletesorry, wrong name. lol I meant Thank you Chris.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a bit harsh George...I'll post but the last few words are probably not the way I'd phrase it.
ReplyDeleteThank you George.
