Gigantic Celebrates Shiga Kogen’s 20th Anniversary with Exclusive Beer Release & Special Menu

We’re excited to invite you to a special event at Gigantic Brewing Hawthorne on Friday, September 20th, as we celebrate Shiga Kogen Brewery’s 20th Anniversary with the release of an extraordinary collaborative beer! In partnership with Shiga Kogen (Nagano, Japan) and Hair of the Dog, we’ve crafted the Shiga Kogen 20th Anniversary Beer—a unique, gin-inspired botanical brew aged in Japanese cedar sake barrels. This limited-edition beer marks two decades of brewing excellence, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

At the event, you’ll be among the first to taste this one-of-a-kind beer, which highlights a complex blend of herbs, spices, hops, and subtle Japanese cedar flavors. A limited number of Shiga Kogen 20th Anniversary Beer cans will be available at the event, with most of the batch destined for anniversary celebrations in Japan. You can secure your cans by pre-ordering through Gigantic Brewing’s website [here], ensuring you don’t miss out on this exclusive release.
Alongside the beer release, we’ve prepared a special menu of Japanese-inspired dishes and favorites from Hair of the Dog, including Panko Crusted Wild Coho Salmon with Apricot Jam, Shio Koji Yakitori Chicken Skewers, Chuck Norris Spicy Duck Wings, and Braised Brussels Sprouts.

As an added treat, Gigantic will be tapping a rare keg of 10 Year Barrel-Aged Adam. Adam was the first beer Hair of the Dog ever made and this batch of Adam has been aged to perfection.

To make the event even more special, we’re offering a $60 Golden Ticket package that includes two cans of Shiga Kogen 20th Anniversary Beer, all four featured food items, and a 5oz pour of the 10 Year Barrel-Aged Adam. Golden Tickets can be purchased in advance [here].

Fresh Hop Season Gets Even Better Today!
Fresh Hop Pilsner is here!

Earlier this week we released Centennial Fresh Hop IPA, brewed with stunning Centennial hops from Crosby Farms in Woodburn, OR.
Today, Friday the 13th, we’re unleashing our Fresh Hop Pilsner. Crafted with the finest Tettnanger hops from Gayle Goschie’s farm in Silverton, OR, this pilsner offers a soft, bready malt profile with floral notes and a spicy wet-hop bite. The Germans wish they could brew like this. (Also this Friday the 13th, join us for a special Gigantic Smashburger+Danish Pork Sandwich+Pretzel Pop-up at the Brewery Taproom. Details below)

And finally, a fan favorite returns next Tuesday, September 17thSodbusted Simcoezilla Fresh Hop IPA. For 12 years, we’ve partnered with Sodbuster Farms in Keizer, OR, to handpick the best Simcoe hops, known for their bold grapefruit and pine aromas. Simcoezilla is a timeless classic for a reason—it’s just that good.
Be the First to Taste Our Fresh Hop Beers! All three Gigantic Taproom locations will have them on tap first. Swing by for a pint and don’t forget to grab some cans to enjoy at home! You can also find our fresh hop releases at select grocery stores, bottle shops, and top-notch bars throughout Portland.

Our Gigantic Hawthorne kitchen has earned a reputation for mouthwatering eats like our Gigantic Smashburgers, Danish Pork Sandwiches (inspired by the flavors we discovered in Copenhagen), and warm Pretzels. And for one night only—this Freaky Friday the 13th—we’re bringing these fan-favorites to the Gigantic Brewery Taproom!

Join us from 3-8 pm (or until sold out) to get your hands on these delicious bites. Don’t miss your chance to indulge!
