Double Mountain Announces Woodstock Anniversary Details

Our Seasonal Pizza, the Heirloom Pie, will be Available in all Taprooms Starting this Friday!

The long wait is over and heirloom tomato season has returned here at Double Mountain. We know that a lot of you wait all year for this moment, so we wanted to make sure we informed you all as soon as we were able so you can plan accordingly.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with this pie, our Heirloom Pizza has a base of fresh basil walnut pesto and mozzarella & fontal cheese. Once baked, it is topped with local heirloom tomatoes and is finished with pecorino and parmigiano. Yes, it is as good as it sounds.

It is legendary. It pairs perfectly with any of our beers or ciders. Get it while you can.

HOME GROWN TOMATOES!

A Short Story about this Year's Heirloom Tomatoes and a Remarkable Woman named Silvia!

In the picturesque town of Hood River, there lives a remarkable woman named Silvia. For 17 years, she has been a beloved figure at Double Mountain, known not just as one of our MODs (Manager on Duty), but also as the soul behind the lush houseplants that fill the taproom, the occasional social media guru, and the talent behind the lens of many of our brewery photos.

This year, Silvia had a wild idea brewing in her mind, one that was even crazier than her usual creative escapades. One crisp winter morning, she approached Matt Swihart, the owner of Double Mountain, with a twinkle in her eye and a plan that sounded straight out of a dream.

"Matt," she said, "how about we turn that empty field by the warehouse into a farm and grow our own heirloom tomatoes right here?"

Matt, who had seen many of Silvia's ideas flourish, couldn't help but be intrigued. And so, with his blessing, Silvia, with some fellow coworkers, embarked on her most ambitious project yet.

The field was a blank canvas, but far from easy to work with. It was tough, rocky, and in desperate need of care. But Silvia saw beyond the barren earth, envisioning a thriving farm where others saw only an empty lot. With grit and determination, she began the painstaking process of turning her vision into reality.

She started with the soil, treating it with nutrients and setting up an irrigation system that would ensure every inch of the field received the water it needed. It was backbreaking work, especially when it came to digging out the massive rocks that littered the field. But with each rock removed, Silvia felt herself getting closer to her goal.

Next came the seeds- precious heirloom varieties that Silvia had carefully selected. She planted them with care, watching over them like a mother hen. As the weeks turned into months, tiny green sprouts began to emerge from the soil, reaching toward the sky. They were tended to daily as they grew taller and stronger.

Now, summer has arrived, and with it, a burst of color as the tomatoes begin to ripen on the vine. The once-empty field is now transforming into a sea of green leaves and bright red, yellow, green, and orange tomatoes, each one a testament to hard work. The farm is a sight to behold, with row upon row of heirloom tomatoes basking in the summer sun, just waiting for their moment to shine. And that moment is fast approaching.

As she walks through the rows of ripening tomatoes, we hope Silvia feels a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. What started as a crazy idea has blossomed into something truly special. The tomatoes are plump and juicy, bursting with flavor, and soon, they will be the star ingredient in one of Double Mountain’s most beloved dishes.

For now, the tomatoes remain on the vine, soaking up the last of the summer sun. But in just a few days, they will be picked, prepped, and placed atop the heirloom pizzas at the taproom- a delicious reminder of what can be achieved with vision, hard work, and a little bit of crazy.

Thank you, Silvia, for your dedication and for reminding us that anything is possible when you put your heart into it. Your labor of love is about to become a new favorite at Double Mountain, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with everyone who walks through our doors.
