Women’s History Month with New Benevolence Beer, She Means Business  zzubreebym

REHOBOTH, DE  (MARCH 6, 2023) – On Monday, March 11, Dogfish Head’s Rehoboth Brewpub, Brewings & Eats, will launch She Means Business, its first Benevolence Beer of 2024, in collaboration with the Delaware Restaurant Association (DRA). She Means Business (5.5% ABV) is a Belgian-style white ale, brewed with a unique blend of coriander, sumac, peppercorns, white tea and tamarind, creating a beer with a delicate balance of complex citrus, herb and spice notes. In honor of Women’s History Month and the incredible women who fuel the hospitality industry, the grains and spices used to create She Means Business were sourced from women-owned businesses.

She Means Business will be available on draft for on-site consumption at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats and to-go in 4pk/16oz cans at Dogfish Head’s Off-Centered EmPOURium, while supplies last. Priced at $16 per 4pk.

In addition to the beer launch on March 11, the Delaware Restaurant Association will host a special, in-person event at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, from 6-8 p.m., celebrating women who are making waves in the hospitality industry and unveiling its new Women of Hospitality Leadership Accelerator. A portion of the proceeds from She Means Business will be donated to DRA to support this development initiative for women in Delaware's hospitality industry. Tickets are available HERE.

"I am thrilled to have the support of an iconic brand like Dogfish Head to design a special can and beer release in honor of women who work in the restaurant and hospitality industry,” said Carrie Leishman, President & CEO of Delaware Restaurant Association and Foundation. “Women make up more than 60% of this exciting industry but often have little access to meaningful mentorship, coaching and leadership development programs.  The Delaware Restaurant Association will use funds donated from the beer release to pilot a powerful women's leadership accelerator program."

Women's History Month - four posters side by side of Dogfish Head coworkers and fun facts about them

Sugar and spice and everything off-centered … this one’s for the girls!

Thursday, March 07, 2024

It’s Women’s History Month and all month long we’re celebrating our amazing female coworkers with a beer release, spirit release and coworker poster take-overs! We’re eternally grateful for the spectacular group of women in the Dogfish Head world, so this one’s for them.

Poster Take-Overs

We wanted to use this moment to highlight some of the many, but certainly not all, amazing women that are working hard behind-the-scenes. Throughout the month, you’ll see posters at each of our coastal Delaware locations that showcase a few of these coworkers and some off-centered facts about them! From black belts to world travelers to motorcyclists, these powerful women who are all leaders in their own way, deserve a little spotlight.

She Means Business

We’ve partnered with the Delaware Restaurant Association (DRA) for our first Benevolence Beer of 2024, and this one was brewed with loads of girl power! She Means Business (5.5% ABV) is a Belgian-style white ale, brewed with a unique blend of coriander, sumac, peppercorns, white tea and tamarind, creating a beer that is bursting with an intense aroma reminiscent of candied orange rind. In honor of Women’s History Month and the incredible women who fuel the hospitality industry, the grains and spices used to create this incredible beer were sourced from women-owned businesses.

Hettie Epison, one of our female graphic designers, created the beer’s label in an effort to encompass the multi-faceted aspects of being a woman, from the feminine to the powerful, while also capturing the essence of the beer itself. The label sports a Rosie the Riveter-inspired character in a hot pink and black color scheme to align with the DRA’s Women in Hospitality logo. Made up of ingredients that are all included in the beer, the woman on the can showcases a soft profile alongside an energetic power stance, while delicately holding the world up between her two, perfectly manicured fingers. The deconstructed nature of this boss lady allows the drinker the opportunity to see themselves in her. The label was simply too good, so Hettie adapted it for the coworker posters that you might see around our locations.

You can get your hands on this exclusive beer only at Brewings & Eats and to-go in 4-packs at the Off-Centered EmPOURium starting March 11.

Alongside the beer release, the DRA will host a special, in-person event at Brewings & Eats on March 11 from 6 - 8 p.m., celebrating women who are making waves in the hospitality industry and unveiling its new Women of Hospitality Leadership Accelerator. Tickets are available HERE

A portion of the proceeds from She Means Business will be donated to the DRA to support this development initiative for women in Delaware's hospitality industry. AND, you can keep the female empowerment rolling on Wednesdays, March 6 and 20, with Benevolence Nights at Brewings & Eats. On both of those nights, 10% of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to DRA’s Womens of Hospitality Program, as well.

Siren’s Kiss

A vodka that’s … chef’s kiss? More like Siren’s Kiss. One of our distillers, Marge Egeln, worked with the women-owned Atlantic Sea Farms to create this new savory spirit. A true message in a bottle filled with love and respect for the sea, Siren’s Kiss Garlic Kelp Flavored Vodka (40% ABV) is distilled with sustainably farmed kelp from Atlantic Sea Farms, garlic and smoked peppercorns, and then rested on fresh dill to give it a culinary kick sure to please any pickle lover.

Atlantic Sea Farms is a mission-driven seaweed farming company dedicated to making a powerful and positive impact on its coastal communities by working with fishermen to grow regeneratively farmed kelp. This nutrient dense, climate-hero seaweed is rope-grown and hand harvested in the clean, cold waters of Maine - giving it beautifully crisp flavors from the sea.

Not sure how kelp can mitigate the impacts of climate change? Think of it as the trees of the sea. Seaweed absorbs carbon and nitrogen from the ocean, both of which can lead to the degradation of shellfish by altering the water’s pH. Atlantic Sea Farms actually found that mussels planted on ropes immediately following a seaweed harvest had shells that were twice as strong as years prior. Pair that with fishermen now having a product to yield outside of lobster season and you’ve got a fully closed loop that positively impacts the lobster industry and coastal communities in Maine.

Marge commented on the partnership, “They’ve got a really unique approach to regenerative agriculture that feels very in tune with nature and helping to create a better tomorrow for the planet.”

Folks can grab to-go bottles of Siren’s Kiss exclusively at our Milton Brewery and Off-Centered emPOURium in Rehoboth beginning Friday, March 22. It will also be debuted during the Weekend of Compelling Ales and Spirits’ Guided Tasting Experience at the Milton Brewery on Saturday, March 23. Be sure to try this new spirit in a dirty martini or Bloody Mary while toasting to the team of women who made it happen!
