Photographer Ciril Jazbec photographs the global communities most affected by the climate crisis, raising funds for Planet Impact Fund on Giving Tuesday 28 November

Hope you are well today. I’d love to suggest an interview with the renowned Slovenian photographer Ciril Jazbec who is presenting his work as a part of a global GOODWORKS charity print sale on Giving Tuesday 28 November, organised by Laird & Good Company. 100% proceeds of the print sale are going to 1% for the Planet® Impact Fund at National Philanthropic Trust to support their innovative work that protect the planet’s ecosystems, conserve biodiversity, and combat climate change.

Jazbec’s work focuses on communities that are confronted by the effects of globalization and the climate crisis. In his long-term projects, he aims to raise awareness about the deterioration of our planet and the increasing impact of the climate crisis. He has seen the rising sea levels in Kiribati, the erosion and melting of permafrost in Alaska, and has spent over seven months in Greenland documenting climate effects on the Inuits.

Jazbec studied Management at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana before moving to London to study photography. He gained an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication in 2011.

His awards include the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award in 2013, Photo Folio Review Les Rencontres d’Arles winner in 2013, Magnum 30 under 30 in 2015, PDN’30 New and emerging photographers to watch in 2016, and Pictures of the Year International World Understanding Award in 2018. Jazbec’s work has been featured in National Geographic, The New York Times, GEO, Der Spiegel, Neu Zürcher Zeitung, Marie Claire Italy, Leica Fotografie International, Wired UK, and The British Journal of Photography.

His works have been exhibited and presented in various venues including Les Rencontres d'Arles, Visa pour l'Image, The Photoville, PhEST, Format Festival, The Annenberg Space for Photography, Newseum, East Wing Gallery, and The Royal Geographical Society.

Good Works Prints is launched to raise awareness and funds for organisations and charities making a difference in our world, with a focus on conservation and restoration, climate adaptation, and climate emergency relief efforts. Featuring 10 artists from the agency’s impressive roster of photographers, directors and stylists, the November print sale marks the start of the agency’s wider philanthropic initiative Good Works in which the first effort is Good Works Prints. Good Works is dedicated to raising awareness around environmental causes, and celebrating the community of artists the agency represents. The artists included in the first sale are Ciril Jazbec, Finn Beales, Gentl and Hyers, Leeor Wild, Mark Elzey, Maureen M. Evans, PEDEN + MUNK, Rich Stapleton, Richard Phibbs and William Jess Laird.
