This 28 Sept 2023 update from Sierra Nevada:

It’s time for a nightcap. Beer or bourbon? No need to choose. Our Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned is inspired by the classic cocktail, using both bourbon and bitters barrels to transform an Imperial Red Ale. Plus a late infusion of orange peel, naturally.

We made the base beer with 100% certified-organic Estate grains and hops, farmed at our brewery in Chico, CA. It aged for 18 months in bourbon barrels, but we pulled a select few casks at the 1-year mark. That isolated beer shifted into bitters barrels — white oak barrels that previously aged both whiskey and aromatic bitters.

The result is potent, says our innovation brewer Nick Ison, “and it's what brings the beer together. The bitters is just a fraction of the blend, as it would be in any cocktail.”

Citrus and bitters jump from the aroma, while Nick picks up stone fruit like plum and cherry in the flavor, “which I always get from malty beers that age.” The lingering bitterness is pleasant, evoking the orange twist you’d find in your rocks glass.

You’ll want these 750mL bottles for all the fall things: fire pits, game days, holiday hangouts. Grab your max of 6 before they run out.
