From Portland Cider:
CLACKAMAS, OR – March 1, 2023 – Portland Cider Company is elevating its Abbey Apple Cider beyond its humble taproom-only origins into cans. This small-batch series release was an immediate favorite of pub regulars when a limited quantity was made in 2021, prompting its wider release. zzubreebym
In Abbey Apple, Northwest apples are fermented with Belgian Trappist ale yeast, resulting in a smooth, full-bodied cider with a bright, juicy finish. Tropical aromas rise over a hint of subtle banana and clove notes, ending with a uniquely smooth finish.
"I’m kind of a yeast science nerd, and I love experimenting with different yeasts and learning how the flavor nuances change depending on the strain” said Deron Davenport, head cider maker at Portland Cider Co. “The Belgian Trappist yeast in Abbey Apple yields those tropical notes that you might find in a Belgian-style beer, but built on that bright, juicy apple flavor—and none of the gluten. The result is a really satisfying, smooth cider.”
Portland Cider is celebrating the launch of Abbey Apple with a Cider Makers Night from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023. Portland Cider’s own cider makers will be on hand to talk about the science and art of crafting delicious cider, answer questions, and offer some exclusive tastes of ciders still in R&D. The event takes place at Portland Cider’s Westside Pub, 4005 SW Orbit Road in Beaverton.
“Lynda and I got our start making cider at home, and we learned from people who shared their passion for cider making with us,” said Jeff Parrish, co-owner of Portland Cider. “Listening to really dedicated cider makers talk about their art is a great way to level up your own homemade cider—or just enjoy some of ours!”
Abbey Apple Cider will be available through June on tap and in 19.2 ounce “Proper Pint” cans at Portland Cider Co’s three taprooms, as well as on the shelves of select retailers in Oregon and Washington.
