“We are super excited to join the energy of amazing restaurants and breweries on the Westside. This new location will allow us to bring what we have been perfecting in Kentwood to the heart of Grand Rapids,” says Jason Spaulding, CEO. “We have been able to really innovate with our spirits and continue to make some incredible creative beers that will add to the draw to that part of town,” he adds.
Just last week Grand Rapids was recognized again as a #1 beer destination in the country in USA Today’s 10 best poll*. “I think part of what makes a city great is the local flavor of the food & beer,” says Chef Ryan McClure. “Broad Leaf already has such a great reputation for both and I get to build on that and steer our menu here in a new direction. We are having lots of fun taking influences from all over the world and blending them into our own creative offerings. Bowls of ramen noodles, crunchy fried chicken, bao buns, flavorful vegetable dishes and the burgers we have become known for make for a curated and exciting menu,” he adds.
Broad Leaf was awarded a silver medal for their 9 botanical Gin by the American Distilling Institute* earlier this year and also recently launched their Undead Spirits line. “Our Undead Spirits are made from beer left over from the pandemic. We distilled this otherwise dead beer into a neutral spirit and offer several different flavors in hand painted skull bottles,” says Shayla Stuchell, General Manager. “Because we create all of these unique spirits ourselves we can make traditional cocktails or push the boundaries and explore making something you cannot get anywhere else. We truly have a special treat for everybody!” she adds.
As a welcome to guests to celebrate their grand opening, there is a 50% off sale on all to-go beer and the first 100 people that order a bowl of noodles get to take home a set of customized logoed chopsticks. “We wanted to find some fun ways to celebrate and allow people to take a little something home to remember us with,” says Assistant Manager Taylor Holwerda. “Our beer is so amazing we want to get some in people’s fridge at home.” The new Broad Leaf location has an extensive takeout area for cold beer, bottles of their award winning spirits and logoed merchandise, clothing, glassware and more. To welcome in the holiday season, both the outdoor seating area and the inside of the pub have been decorated to create a festive mood. The outside bar will be closed for the season but guests will be able to enjoy a beverage outside and stay warm with outdoor heaters in the beer garden area.
The pub’s hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 3-11pm, Friday and Saturday from 12pm-12am and Sunday from 12pm-10pm. Broad Leaf Westside is located in the lower garden level under Fratelli’s and the newly opened Drip Drop cocktail bar.
