Big Lake Brewing Explores the Boundaries of Craft Beer

From Big Lake:

Holland Brewery Blurs Line Between Art and Science of Beer With New Exploratory Series

HOLLAND, MI . December 28, 2021 – Big Lake Brewing, one of the fastest growing breweries in the state of Michigan, is launching an Exploratory Series of beer to create exciting and unique brews for its fans while pushing the current boundaries of craft brewing.

Beer brewing involves very technical aspects of biology, chemistry, and physics, but ultimately relies on the vision and imagination of the brewer to produce the drinkable art craft beer fans know and love. Big Lake’s Exploratory Series blurs the lines between art and science by experimenting with aspects of brewing including alcohol level, mouthfeel, and carbonation, and using unique flavors and ingredients including cryogenically frozen hops, rare grains, and hard-to-find yeasts.

“We’re looking to break the mold with our Exploratory Series, and produce something that nobody’s ever done before,” said Zach Dreyer, brewmaster at Big Lake Brewing. “While the nature of the unique ingredients and processes we’re using means these will only ever be small-batch, limited-edition brews, we’re having some fun and really trying to push the boundaries of where craft brewing is today.”

A new beer in the Series will be released every quarter, and will be available on draft and in cans at the downtown Holland pub, as well as in limited distribution throughout the state. Volume #1 in the series - available now - was brewed with Rakau and Sultana hops to give it plenty of juicy pineapple and orange fruitiness. Its low bitterness and good body make it a refreshingly drinkable 9.5% ABV beer.

“We consider ourselves an experimental brand that focuses on big flavor and big adventure,” added Travis Prueter, president of Big Lake Brewing. “Our Exploratory Series is being made with real craft beer lovers in mind - those whose interests go beyond how it tastes to how it’s made, what ingredients are used and why, and how brewing processes impact the final product.”

Big Lake expects Volume #2 to be released mid-February.

“We’re having fun, pushing the envelope, and seeing where it takes us,” continued Dreyer. “And we’re excited to have Big Lake fans come along with us on the adventure.”
