Boulevard Releasing Brewhouse One Cherry Pie Sour & Key Lime Pie Sour

From Boulevard:

The holidays are fun but fraught with peril. The anxiety of travel and traffic, rekindling relationships with past friends and family, preparing your home for the onslaught of guests, or invading a home not your own.

There exists a couple of ways to alleviate these stressors and to make friends either in your space or theirs. Bring beer, or bring pie. zzubreebym

Pie has existed for about as long as beer has. While we were learning how to perfect the fermentation of grains, simultaneously one of our ancestors discovered the delight of baking tasty ingredients into a crust made of those grains. Thousands of years later, both beer and pie have evolved to become mostly unrecognizable from their humble origins. One thing that has remained steadfast over the ages is their uncanny ability to lift spirits wherever they are served.

Our latest Brewhouse One Limited Releases combine the best of both worlds.

First Up!

Cherry Pie Sour Ale

This Brewhouse One release expertly combines the essence of a tart cherry pie with the drinkability of a sour wheat ale. Our brewers lovingly worked with pale and wheat malt, flaked oats, and a touch of both pie crust and graham cracker flavor to create the perfect “crustable” body for this beer.

During fermentation, we employed a bioengineered ale yeast strain called Sourvisiae which is capable of producing lactic acid during fermentation. In addition to the sourvisiae, dark sweet cherry concentrate was added prior to filtration, harmoniously creating the perfect flavor of tart cherry pie filling.

Key Lime Pie Sour Ale

The perfect Key Lime pie walks a real fine line between sweet and tart. This kind of balance is often accomplished through contrasts. We used the same base beer for the Key Lime Pie Sour Ale and the Cherry Pie. Finding the right amount of lime tartness to match the sweet crust of the base beer was challenging. We added lime concentrate for that wonderful lime flavor, and pickling lime to achieve a wonderful balance of acidity to the natural sweetness produced from the base beer. With tremendous result, you can now have your pie and drink it too!

Slices… er..that is, crowlers of these pie beers will be available just prior to the holidays. Feel free to discuss “pie-litics” to your heart's content while sharing these delicious beers over rich, traditional holiday meals.
