Surly Pizza Upstairs Re-Opens

The Wait is Finally Over…

Surly Pizza Upstairs is finally re-opening and we couldn’t be more excited! Our pizza is Surly’s interpretation of what is commonly known as New Haven-style. One of the signature features is the char of the crust, caused by the intense heat of the oven. If you’ve left a frozen pizza in the oven too long because you fell asleep on the couch, you know what burned is. This isn’t that. Take a bite, you’ll know right away.
Our executive sous chef, Joe Stoesz, has been working for months on crafting the perfect menu, and he nailed it. We’re featuring nine pizza varieties at launch, including six returning classics and three brand new ones. Favorites such as I’m Your Daddy, Hitchhiker, and the Spicoli are back, while newcomers like Hooked On Mario Bros. debut. Our current featured pizza, titled How You Doin’, features our signature crust, topped with a red sauce, and fresh tomatoes marinated in olive oil, basil, salt, and garlic. To complete the menu, we have four new sides, two salads, and 20 different tap lines to pair with your pie. Surly Pizza Upstairs is back and better than ever.
Since our kitchen reopened, we’ve been thrilled to see smiling faces fill the Beer Hall once again. We recently added a new feature that allows customers to order food and beverages from their phones while they sit in our Beer Garden too. This new system is quick and easy, saving you the hassle of flagging down a server. Just choose the items you want, press order, and our servers will bring your food out shortly. Easy as that!
Four new beers are available at the Beer Hall this week! Calmer than Bebop is a dark lager with a sturdy malt backbone that’s still pleasantly light and exceptionally drinkable. Age of Leviathans is a massive stout brewed with ruby chocolate, raspberry puree, vanilla beans, and lactose. Damien is a dry-hopped black ale spawned from the remnants of Darkness, featuring roasted malt and dark brown sugar notes and hop aromatics reminiscent of tangerine and pine. Finally, Fifteen is now available on tap! Surly built its reputation on not necessarily brewing to style, and our 15th anniversary beer is no different. It’s a Belgian strong ale aged for eight months in Parker’s Heritage Heavy Char Bourbon Barrels, then back-blended with a touch of rye barrel-aged wild ale and some fresh Belgian Quad. We hope you like these new beers as much as we do!

This Saturday, Phoebe Bridgers and special guest MUNA are coming to perform at Festival Field! All ticketing information can be found on First Avenue’s website. Want to win two free tickets? Tag us in an Instagram story with whoever your +1 will be with #SurlyGiveAway. Bonus points if the story photo is of a Surly beer!
