In just over 24-hours the 2018 Winter Olympics will kick into high gear, and so too will my sitting on the couch in front of the TV with a beer. I love watching the Winter Olympics, and for 2018, Blue Point is helping me (and you) make the choice of what beer to enjoy on the couch really easy.
Blue Point is launching a beer called Oh Limb Pick (get it? “Oh-Lim-Pik” as in Olympic) on Feb 9th and yes it is being released just in time for the Olympic opening ceremonies…and better yet they are guaranteeing that you too can bring home the gold. The can is gold, beer is a Golden Ale and if that’s not enough to help you bring home the gold, Oh Limb Pick is also brewed with real gold flake. Yes you read that right, Blue Point actually adds gold flake into the kettle.
The beer pours a bright straw color and before you even ask, no we didn’t spot any actual gold flake floaters in the beer. The beer pours bright and clear with aromas of tropical fruit, thanks in part to their obvious choice of hops for dry-hopping; Olympic hops. If that’s not enough, the beer is also brewed with Zeus, Apollo and Brewers Gold hops. How’s that for ticking all of the Olympic-boxes? Oh Limb Pick is crisp hoppy and really drinkable. The finish is a bit dry with loads of tropical and citrus flavors, perfect if you want to have a refreshing beer after you slalom your way down the slopes. Blue Point recommends you take up Curling, but of course they mean your wrist and none of us recommend drinking and attempting to do any Olympic sports after a few beers…stick to the couch!
Oh Limb Pick will hit 5.3%-AbV and a surprisingly hoppy 30 IBU. It will be available in 16oz cans as well as kegs, so get out there and earn your gold. And when you do, be sure to smile for the camera, say “Hi Mom!” and let us know what YOU think.
And a big thank you to Blue Point for including the cool Olympic Gold medal bottle opener. I shall wear it at the opening ceremonies with pride.
