From Short’s:
Cold winter months call for an occasional big beer to keep you warm. Well we’re kicking off the first Private Stache release of 2018 with a monster of a brew. The brain child of our Director of Quality, Tyler, this beer has a monstrous primary plato of 28, thanks to its large malt bill, the addition of Medjool dates, and beet sugar. Once fermented Ben’s Asthma is an impressive beer on its own, but this time we aged it for an entire year in Two James Grass Widow bourbon barrels, creating an even more gigantic brew.
Bourbon Ben’s Asthma (14.3% ABV – 36 IBU) is a barrel-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with beet sugar and Medjool dates. Leading with an intense aroma of sweet brown sugar, plums, and a foreboding potency of alcohol. The combination of Medjool dates, beet sugar, and a sizable malt bill creates an immense candied sweetness, coupled with a big sticky mouthfeel from the hefty additions of oat flakes. Extensive bourbon-barrel aging provides some enjoyable vanilla wafer and caramel flavor complements. Despite the huge sweet initial flavor impact on the palate, some toasted oak qualities manage to poke through, before an expected mouth warming sensation caused by the high alcohol content that quickly builds and lingers well into the finish.
Available at the Short’s Brewing Pub and Short’s Mart only, be sure to swing in soon to pick up one of the limited bottles of this beer!
