Asheville, NC – Ginger’s Revenge, Asheville’s first and only brewery focused on the production of alcoholic ginger beer, has just released a limited edition batch called “Appalachian Ginger”. The batch required over 100 lbs of local ginger sourced from three farms within 25 miles of the brewery’s production facility: Jah Works Farm, Rayburn Farm, and Rise Up and Rooted Farm.
“Ginger has a short harvest window in the mountains, so we’ve been in conversations with local farmers since our opening about brewing a special batch featuring local ginger,” said David Ackley, head brewer and co-founder. “We based Appalachian Ginger on our Original recipe, but processed over 100 pounds of local ginger by hand, increased the dose of warming spices like cinnamon and cardamom, and boosted the alcohol content to 5.7% for the winter season. We hope to bring Appalachian Ginger back on an annual basis and use more and more local ginger each year.”
Appalachian Ginger will join the lineup of other alcoholic ginger beers in the Ginger’s Revenge tasting room, which currently includes: Original, Honey Chamomile, Pear Rosemary, Lime Agave, and Dry Hopped. The Ginger's Revenge tasting room also serves traditional craft beer options, a non-alcoholic ginger soda, craft beer mixology, and light snacks. Booty’s Meat Market Food Truck is on site at the brewery Wednesday through Saturday to provide more substantial snacks and hot meals.
“Sustainable agriculture is something that David and I have been passionate about for a long time, so we are really excited for the opportunity to support local farmers and help develop the local ginger market.” said Cristina Hall Ackley, Ginger’s Revenge co-founder.
Appalachian Ginger will be available for a limited time in the Ginger’s Revenge tasting room starting Wednesday, November 29th, as well as at select breweries, bars, and restaurants in the greater Asheville area.
