For the first time ever, we're releasing limited edition bottles of our 12-month barrel aged Wooden Hell Private Reserve on Thursday, December 21, beginning at 11:30am.
Originally released in 2006, Wooden Hell, affectionately dubbed the best beer the world (and underworld) has ever seen, is a 9.1% alcohol by volume (ABV) barrel aged barleywine that received bronze in its category at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival.
Brewmaster Ryan Czaja collaborated with former Flossmoor Brewmaster and Wooden Hell founder Matt Van Wyk to brew Wooden Hell last year, the first time since 2006. More than 80% of the batch, which was barrel aged for 9 months, was released during Pre-Dark Lord Day in May. The remainder has been aging further in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels.
The Wooden Hell Private Reserve tapping will be on Wednesday, December 20 at 11:30am, followed by the bottle release on Thursday, December 21 at 11:30am. We'll also be selling bottles of Barrel Aged Shadow of the Moon Imperial Stout and Pullman Reserve, a barrel aged brown ale, in limited quantities during the event.
We will hold a limited Wooden Hell Private Reserve presale on Saturday, December 16 for patrons wanting secure bottles of this coveted limited edition barleywine before it goes on sale. The one-day presale will begin for Flossmoor Station Mug Club members at 10 a.m. and open to the public at noon. Each 22 ounce bottle is $25, and patrons must purchase 4 bottles to participate in the pre-sale. Check out the presale at https://woodenhellprivatereserve.brownpapertickets.com/.
