Today we get to see another new bottle coming soon from Jester King Brewery in Austin, TX. This is Örter I Mörker and it is a dark farmhouse ale brewed with dried Woodear mushrooms, pine needles, dried dill and caraway seeds. The beer will be aged in Akvavit barrels and it will hit 7.9%-AbV and it will be packaged in 750ml bottles. Loosely translated from Swedish, “Örter I Mörker” means “herbs in darkness.” Stay tuned for more info.
According to Wikipedia, Akvavit (or aquavit) is a is a flavoured spirit that is principally produced in Scandinavia, where it has been produced since the 15th century.
Akvavit gets its distinctive flavour from spices and herbs, and the main spice should (according to the European Union) be caraway or dill. It typically contains 40% alcohol by volume. The EU has established a minimum of 37.5% ABV for akvavit to be named as such.
