Oskar Blues Announces a Collaboration For a Cause

Oskar Blues Announces a Collaboration For a CauseExciting collaboration beer news coming from Oskar Blues:

A couple of brewery guys planning a super casual, no big deal, 35-mile run for a great cause? Sounds like something we can get behind. The brewers who came up with the balls-to-the-wall idea – Phil Cutti, the co-founder and Brewmaster at Headlands Brewing Co out of California, and Adam LeClaire, the Brewing Operations Manager at Perrin – met up with our own Juice Drapeau in the Lyons brew barn. The three dudes worked on a collaboration beer for Pints for Prostates – an organization that uses beer-related projects to raise awareness about prostate health. The collab beer is part of a larger plan to raise funds for Pints for Prostates, including the aforementioned running craziness. Deets:

The Beer

The Lyons Pints for Prostates collaboration beer is a golden double IPA using experimental hops. “Yeah it’s a double IPA but we’re keeping it at an approachable 7.5 or 8% ABV,” offered LeClaire. “It has citrusy hops – HPC 682 hops, Simcoe and Pacifico.” The malt bill includes Caramalt, wheat, dextrin and rye for malt depth without darkening the color.

Here’s the fun part – this big, bright and juicy beer has no name and it’s up to YOU to name it. Email allyballz@oskarblues.com with your most creative, snappy beer name idea. We also suggest a $5 donation to Pints for Prostates to secure your entry.

The Run

This year’s beer is an extension of a project that started in 2016, when Cutti decided to organize a fundraiser run during the week of the Great American Beer Festival, with proceeds going toward prostate cancer research and prevention. The 35-mile route starts in Boulder and ends in Denver, with 8 breweries along the way acting as aid stations. Last year, the run generated about $5000 in donations for Pints for Prostates.

“The views were great, we made some awesome connections and good friends, and we raised a pretty big chunk of money for an important cause,” said Cutti. “We’re hoping to get more people involved this year.”

Cutti, LeClaire, and Drapeau are all very closely acquainted with the cause. The fathers of all three men are prostate cancer survivors. “I’m going to be brewing anyway,” said Juice, “so I might as well do it for the right things. Plus I get lonely out here in the barn, so it’s cool to have these guys come out to do a collaboration brew.”

LeClaire and Cutti plan on working with at least two other Colorado breweries in the coming weeks on collaboration beers related to Pints for Prostates.

This year’s run will be held October 3 and will culminate in a Finish Line Festival in Denver, where the collaboration brew can be tasted. Pints for Prostates will offer FREE mobile cancer screenings and the event will feature raffles and giveaways.

To recap, these are the ways you can get involved:
