On Wednesday, August 9, the Marin Brewing Company released its “No Shame” Apricot Milkshake IPA. It’s now on tap at Marin Brewing and in sixth-and half-barrel kegs.

“No Shame” is Marin Brewing’s take on the Fruited Milkshake IPA-style that is gaining popularity with craft beer drinkers. The style is said to have originated with Tired Hands Brewery in Pennsylvania and Omnipollo Brewery in Stockholm, Sweden. The new take on IPAs typically contains fruits, lactose sugar, malted oats, and vanilla. The name “No Shame” refers to the past chorus of craft brewers who swore they would never put fruit in an IPA, much less lactose and vanilla. Marin Brewing’s Brewmaster Arne Johnson put it best, “Well, I guess I have no shame.”

Marin Brewing’s Milkshake IPA uses apricots (pureed and extract), about five percent lactose (milk) sugar, approximately ten percent malted oats and vanilla. Johnson uses a New Zealand grown hop that is new to Marin Brewing called Rakau, along with Mosaic Cryo Powder and Citra hop pellets. Rakau has flavors and aromas reminiscent of apricots. The lactose and malted oats lend a full mouthfeel, which is typical of Milkshake IPA’s. “No Shame” will be left unfiltered to retain all of the flavor and mouthfeel packed into the beer. Marin Brewing hopes you enjoy the new brew, but if you’re not into it, Marin Brewing makes about 40 other beers that are not Fruited Milkshake IPAs.----
