Some exciting craft beer news coming from Catawba Brewing today:
Catawba Brewing’s CLT IPA, recently given a packaging upgrade with its sleek new full-color can, now has a lofty title to go along with it.
The World Beer Awards announced their “World’s Best” style winners for 2017 earlier this month. Catawba's hoppy homage to their Charlotte roots made a major splash on the world stage, taking home the highly coveted gold medal in the IPA category!
This year's competition included over 1900 beers from 36 countries, blind-tasted and scored over two rounds by an international panel of judges. The final round of judging was held in London, where 72 style winners were announced on August 11. For the entire list of “World’s Best Beers,” visit the World Beer Awards website.

CLT IPA was released in February of this year as a tribute to the company’s humble beginnings in the Queen City. Catawba Owners, Billy, Jetta, and Scott Pyatt, credit a purchase from a Charlotte homebrew store, Alternative Beverage, circa 1994, as inspiration for the family business. Catawba opened a new satellite brewery in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood this spring.
CLT IPA is available year-round on draft and in 4-pack cans at all four Catawba tasting rooms, and in limited distribution. Its recognition from the World Beer Awards is Catawba’s most prestigious beer award to date. The brewery’s flagship, White Zombie, also was awarded a US silver medal in the Belgian-style Witbier category.
