Whole Lotta Lupulin Double IPA, a collaboration with Whole Foods Market and Smuttynose Brewing Company, is coming to Whole Foods. This brand-new Double IPA will be available at select Whole Food Markets throughout the Northeast beginning June 11th.

Whole Lotta Lupulin Double IPA is a balanced, full-bodied double IPA with a glowing amber color and an aroma of citrus with a hint of pine. The first sip offers citrus and floral notes with light caramel sweetness, followed by a notably hoppy finish with a touch of malt. Nothing in Whole Lotta Lupulin’s flavor or appearance belies its 9.5% ABV.
How We Made It
We turned to our collection of malts and hops to create a beer that is truly a masterpiece. The combination of 2 row, white wheat, caramalt, and carahell malts creates a a robust, malty flavor up front. As a result, we use a combination of nugget, summit, citra, centennial, motueka, and amarillo to balance the beer’s sweet-to-hoppy profile. Finally, a beer that’s not afraid to balance the hops against the malts.
So what about the name? Lupulin is actually the name of the oil extract that hops give off. The brewing process extracts the lupulin, and gives hoppy beers their distinct flavor. Because of Whole Lotta Lupulin’s strong malt base, we used a whole lotta lupulin (see what we did there?) to make it happen.
Whole Lotta Lupulin Double IPA will be available at a number of stores throughout the Northeast. Look for it in Connecticut Whole Foods Markets at West Hartford and Glastonbury, in New Hampshire at Bedford and Nashua, and in Portland, Maine. In Massachusetts, keep an eye out at Cambridge, Boston, Lynnfield, Hadley, and Dedham.
