Magic Hat Enters Uncharted Territory with Introduction of Split 6’er Program

Magic Hat knows well that sometimes you just need something different. The Vermont brewer has a long, storied history of offering creative spins on its beers, and its latest creation is no exception. Magic Hat has introduced the Split 6’er program, featuring mixed 6-packs in a closed-top box. The Split 6’er debuted last month at Magic Hat’s Mardi Gras celebration and asked Hefeweizen fans to #ChooseYourHefe as Circus Boy and Zirkus Boy duked it out in an online voting forum.

This pairing came about when Circus Boy decided to ditch his carnie confines and hitch it to Germany, where he befriended fellow rabble-rouser Zirkus Boy. This new German friend at first appeared to be a doppelgӓnger: unfiltered, unfettered, and unmatched in his liquid jest. However, there was one uber difference between the two: Circus Boy has an American Hefeweizen yeast strain, and Zirkus Boy a German one. The new split-pack packaging offers the best of both continents, with three bottles of each brew per 6’er. Magic Hat invites beer lovers to get acquainted with the dynamic duo and cast a vote for their favorite at http://www.magichat.net/hefe.

“Each of these hefes offers a unique taste experience by introducing a different strain of yeast,” said Chris Rockwood, Head Brewer. “The American hefe strain provides a clean fermentation, allowing a light bready malt body and subtle hints of citrus from the lemongrass added to the boil, to shine. The German hefe strain adds flavors of banana and clove to the original character, adding new layers of complexity.”

Next on the split scene will be the Duet of Nines Split 6’er, launching in July 2017. Half of this 6’er will be Magic Hat #9, the famous Not Quite Pale Ale®, a sorta dry, crisp, refreshing ale with subtle fruit notes and a floral hop bitterness. The other half will be Hi-#9, a new Not Quite IPA, with citrus and piney hop notes balanced by a subtly sweet yet dry finish.

“Magic Hat is known for putting on a show, and what makes for better entertainment than a delicious new beer introduction and friendly tasting competition, wrapped up in one package?” said Mark Hegedus, president of Magic Hat. “No one else is offering a closed split six-pack for beer lovers, and we’re excited to give our fans a new at-home experience, sipping time-honored favorites alongside the unique, fresh brews coming out of our Artifactory.”----
