From Sierra Nevada & Sacramento Kings:
Sacramento, CA . – Today, the Sacramento Kings announced a new partnership with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., a national craft beer pioneer located less than 100 miles from Golden 1 Center in Chico, California. The ten-year partnership aligns two organizations that take tremendous pride in their northern California roots, support for local industry and sustainability efforts.
The partnership will bring a range of Sierra Nevada’s award-winning beers to fans throughout Golden 1 Center in line with the Sacramento Kings' industry-leading commitments to locally-sourced foods and sustainability practices. This includes aiming to source 90 percent of food and beverage concessions from farms with environmentally-friendly business practices within a 150-mile radius of the arena.
Due to open in October, Golden 1 Center is slated to be the first indoor arena in the world to be powered entirely by solar energy sourced within 50 miles of the facility.
“Sierra Nevada has long been recognized as a great California brand, and a pioneer in sustainability and environmental responsibility,” said Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger. “They are a great partner to have as we prepare to open Golden 1 Center and we are proud to offer our visitors a nationally-renowned product crafted in our region.”
This partnership will also create a new open air lounge called the “Sierra Nevada Draught House” that will be prominently featured above the arena’s grand entrance. Offering one of the most remarkable views in sports, the lounge incorporates reclaimed wood from Sierra Nevada’s LEED Platinum Mills River facility in North Carolina, as well as Northern California-sourced orchard walnut. This uniquely Sierra Nevada experience was created with the brewery in mind, giving patrons a glimpse into the craft behind the brewing process.
The Draught House will also feature a special Kings beer brewed exclusively for a limited release at Golden 1 Center. Brewed by arena Executive Chef Tuohy and the Sierra Nevada brewers, this Blond Ale features a citrus, floral aroma from a generous addition of whole cone Crystal and Chinook hops, accentuated by mandarin and lemon peel for a very crisp, sessionable beer.
“Golden 1 Center is a special project that emphasizes sustainability and community at the highest levels,” said Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman. “We were excited at the opportunity to share our beer in what we consider our backyard, with friends that share our values.”
The Sacramento Kings Foundation and Sierra Nevada are also working together to craft a sustainability-based community initiative to educate and inspire more Sacramentans and Kings fans to think about using resources responsibly.
