Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Summit Unchained # 22 Zingiber Cream Ale

imageWe’ve really enjoyed tasting all of the great beers coming from Summit Brewing….but with 2016 being their 30th Anniversary, I can’t tell you how much fun we’ve had tasting all of their 30th Anniversary beers and their 2016 Unchained Series beers.

Just last week we sampled Summit 30th Anniversary Kellar Pils on the WILK Friday BeerBuzz, and I really enjoyed sampling their 30th Anniversary DIPA…but my favorite sampling was when Summit Brewmaster Damien McConn joined us on the radio to sample the previous Unchained Series Release #21 Us & Them.

Today I’m excited to bring you the next release in the Summit Brewing Unchained series…#22 Zingiber Cream Ale.

This beer was created by Summit brewer Christian Dixon and it is a tribute to the classic American Cream Ale.  Zingiber Cream Ale is a 50/50 hybrid of ale and lager each brewed identically and then fermented separately with lager and ale yeast strains (

Munich Lager II, American Ale II)

.  If that’s not enough fun, Zingiber Cream Ale is also brewed with organic Hawaiian ginger as well as hops selected for their German-American heritage (

Sterling, Mt. Hood)

.

Zingiber Cream Ale pours a really nice golden color and I found lots of malt and loads of ginger in the aromas.  The beer has lots of malty sweet flavors up front with a really drinkable crisp clean almost dry finish.  I also really liked how the ginger cut through the sweet malt and really helped balance the beer with a touch of spice.  We also had a lot of fun with Zingiber Cream Ale trying to isolate the flavors and aromas imparted by the lager yeast portion and the ale yeast portion; and in the end what we really liked best was how they balanced each other out.

Zingiber Cream Ale is available now in 12oz canned 6-packs and on draught so be sure to seek it out and try it for yourself….and when you do, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
