Bellaire, MIShort’s Brewing Company of Bellaire, MI and Funky Buddha Brewery of Oakland Park, FL will be making history this weekend at the sold out Extreme Beer Fest event in Boston,February 5th and 6th. The breweries have worked together to create a beer, named Tip ta Tip, that was inspired by an Old Fashioned, each one creating a component of the cocktail-inspired brew. The two will be combined for the first time on-site at Extreme Beer Fest.

Short’s Brewing and Funky Buddha developed a relationship over the years through the beer fest circuit. Inspiration struck, and Tip ta Tip was born. A nod to each brewery’s home state, the final brew is actually two beers blended together. Funky Buddha’s being a Florida orange, yarrow, and rosemary Gruit, and Short’s a Strong American Ale brewed with Michigan cherries. Both aged in bourbon barrels and combined to become one for the first time at Extreme Beer Fest in Boston.

Funky Buddha made the trip to Northern Michigan to help brew the Strong American Ale, while the Short’s crew traveled to Florida to help brew the Gruit. When asked what makes this collaboration special, head brewer Tony Hansen said, “This is going to be the first time that we introduce a beer to the public immediately after blending the final versions from each brewery together and tasting it ourselves. So although the concept of the beer has been very thought out and planned, the final collaborative effort of blending will be pretty spontaneous and exciting.”

Thought to be the first ever collaboration brew blended on site, Tip ta Tip makes its debut at Extreme Beer Fest, but will be available on a smaller scale at each brewery later this year.

Other beers on the Short’s lineup for the Beeradvocate event include: Critterless (American Wild Ale), Melt My Brain (2015 Great American Beer Festival silver award winning American Blonde Ale), and Pinball Whispers (American Wild Ale from Short’s Private Stache).

There will be limited distribution of Short’s Brew and Starcut Ciders in Boston surrounding the Extreme Beer Fest event. Visit the Short’s website for more information
