River North to Release Corundum During GABF

On Saturday, September 26th, River North Brewery will release Corundum, a tart Belgian-style red ale aged in cabernet wine barrels with tart cherries and hibiscus flowers.

The release party kicks off at noon in the River North taproom, at 2401 Blake Street, one mile from the Colorado Convention Center in Denver – the epicenter

of next week’s Great American Beer Festival. Both draft pours and bottles of Corundum will be available.

A deep ruby hue, Corundum radiates with a brilliant aroma of crimson fruit and hibiscus. The first sip leaps upon the tongue with sour cherry notes, then smoothly transitions to a lingering wine and oak finish.

“I was strolling through the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History not a year ago and happened up on the collection of minerals and gems,” Head Brewer Matt Hess said. “A brilliant red crystalline structure of immeasurable beauty captured my eye – Corundum. In the glimmering reflection of that awe-inspiring stone, the idea for this beer was conceived.”

Bombers of Corundum will be $15 each at the release party, with a half-case limit. Corundum can be enjoyed fresh or cellared for two to three years.

Up next from River North: “Funk the Man,” a series of brett saison blends to coincide with the brewery’s final days at its original location, which is on the chopping block for the ever-marching redevelopment of its namesake neighborhood.

Matt and Jessica Hess opened the award-winning River North Brewery in February 2012.  Located in the heart of the RiNo district, Denver’s premier craft brewing neighborhood, River North focuses on Belgian-style and barrel-aged beers. The brewery was recently named 2015 Brewery of the Year in the Best of Craft Beer Awards.  Follow River North on Twitter/Instagram (@rivernorthbrew) and Facebook (facebook.com/rivernorthbrewery) for the latest insights.
