From Half Acre:
Beware, beware the Sticky Fat bear,
every year we tell his tale.
For those of you who don't believe,
he'll get you next year, he'll make you grieve.
Lumbering fat with mass to spare,
he lurks in the darkness, refusing to share
the sticky green bounty, fresh just once a year
his hunger unbounded, it's something to fear.
He tears through the fields, the blackest of eyes
the farmers lay watching, stifling cries
there's no way to stop him, attempts have been made
he eats his fill, and more, then moves on unafraid.
I heard this story recently, that I can't comprehend-
about a small girl who made Sticky Fat, her friend.
Her mom and pop sat quivering, as he combed through their crop
when suddenly they heard a large, mighty, flop.
"Maybe he's finished.." mom quietly prayed,
"There's no way in hell.." pops replied, dismayed.
"I'll check and see!", their small daughter piped,
and was off like a flash, deep into the night.
She found him there snoozing, right by the Chinook,
and said, "Go away, bear! You big, dirty crook!".
He opened one eye, seeming almost amused,
and said, "little girl - I think you're confused..
I don't want to eat hops, they're awful to chew,
but if I didn't eat them... I'd need to eat you."
At that she seemed satisfied, it's believable enough.
"I'll help you then, bear", she sounded quite tough.
They say to this day, you can see them out there,
she dresses herself in Sticky's shed hair.
The two of them together, they make quite a crew
Drooling so much, they cover acres with glue.
"It's not like he needs her" a surly man said,
"I hear their laughter in the wind, it fills me with dread".
This year's batch of Sticky Fat is laced with 450 pounds of Chinook hops, picked the morning the beer was brewed, and driven down from Michigan by our friends at Hop Head Farms.
Happy 5th Birthday to Sticky Fat!

On Saturday, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago celebrates its 150th year.
One of the founders of Half Acre attended SAIC, so brewing a beer to commemorate the school's achievements in fostering creativity and exploration was a natural choice.
Harshad is a kölsch that exhales heavy levels of grapefruit and melon. Extremely quenching and with no bittering hop additions, it's a smooth path to innovative vision .
