Wit’s End Brewing Releases First Barrel-Aged Beer: The Manhattan Project

imageFrom Wit’s End:

Wit’s End Brewing Company is proud to present their first barrel-aged beer—The Manhattan Project, a Belgian-style Quad aged in Laws Whiskey House barrels! With a nod to the four-grain bourbon recipe that made Laws famous, we used malted barley, wheat, rye, and a touch of flaked maize. After barrel aging, we briefly rested the beer on Luxardo cherries to add just a hint of deep, rich pitted fruit flavor and round out the beer. The Manhattan project rings in at 10.5% ABV, with a complex fruity and spicy base, finishing with some soft oak and whiskey notes from the barrels. If a Manhattan cocktail wished it was a beer (and why wouldn’t it?), then this would be the one!

This beer was brewed as a fundraiser item for the elementary school of Wit’s End owner Scott Witsoe’s kids. The lucky auction bidder Scott Landers won the “Brewer for a Day” auction item and was able to collaborate with owner Scott Witsoe in creating a unique beer. In addition, Mr. Landers and his able-bodied assistants Tim DeNezza, Steve LoJacono, all took part in the entire process of brewing, cellaring, and kegging the beer. Come out this Friday 8/14 from 2-8pm to try this amazing creation and feel good knowing 20% of the sale of this beer will go back to the school…CHEERS!
