I brought you a peek at this beer in kegs, and now I’m excited to bring you the bottles. This is Allagash Brewing Avance and it is a Bourbon barrel-aged ale that uses locally picked strawberries. This beer is brewed with molasses and four different yeast strains, it is then aged in oak Bourbon barrels for a year. If that’s not enough fun, Allagash adds one pound per gallon of strawberries and it is aged for another 6 months with Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces. Look for Avance to be packaged in 375ml bottles and the beer will hit 9.5%-AbV. Stay tuned for release details..and yes a sharp-eyed commenter noted that the backing label says “aled” instead of “ale” so I assume we’ll see another label approval coming for this fix.
