Samuel Adams - Honey Queen Braggot - A First Sampling

image
A big thank you to everyone at Samuel Adams for sending me an early sample of their Honey Queen Braggot.  This beer is returning for a limited time so don’t miss out on sampling it.

If you’re not familiar, a Braggot is a medieval-style beverage that dates back to the 12th century and quite simply it is a blend of a fermented honey beverage (Mead) and beer.  Samuel Adams Honey Queen uses Orange Blossom, Clover and Alfalfa honey as well as chamomile to add some really interesting layers of flavoring.  To balance the sweetness, Honey Queen uses East Kent Goldings, Strisselspalt and Aramis hops.

Honey Queen pours a light golden color and it is loaded with aromas of soft honey, melon and even some floral notes.  As I mentioned above, the flavors are well layered and well balanced with honey sweetness, citrusy flavors and an herbal and earthly finish.  A second sip reveals more honey and even more prominent floral-like flavors.

We couldn’t resist pairing with some home-smoked gouda cheese and it was delicious.  Samuel Adams Honey Queen is available in 22oz bottles nationwide for a limited time and the beer comes in at 7.5%-AbV and a sweet 10 IBU.  Be sure to try this unique brew for yourself, and as always, be sure to let me know what YOU think.

As a bonus, Samuel Adams sent along their Summer Ale in can packaging format.  We sampled this beer as part of the Weber Grill promotion, but if you haven’t sampled one cold in the Sam Can, you’re missing out.  This is one of the few times that I think the packaging really completes the beer so try Summer Ale in cans and again let me know what YOU think.
