If last year’s event was any indication, we don't expect this year’s crop of beers to last long; we're recommending arriving early if you’d like to get your hands on these new releases which include:
Henry's Farm Double Bock aged in rye whiskey barrels. This barrel-aged favorite will be returning for its third springtime release in 22 oz bottles. A classic style doppelbock, the rye whiskey barrels add a bold whiskey flavor along with subtle oak character.
Storming in alongside Henry’s Farm during the Nor’Yeaster celebration will be two all new barrel-aged beers, including an Aquavit barrel-aged Unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout.
Aquavit, or “water of life," is a distilled spirit deriving much of its flavor and aroma from caraway seeds. The barrels come from Norway, where some aquavit distilleries have a tradition of sending oak barrels by ship from Norway to Australia and back again, thereby passing the equator twice before being bottled. This constant movement, high humidity and fluctuating temperature cause the spirit to extract more flavor.
Last of the barrel-aged brews being released is a creation by two of our brewers, Roger and Colin.
Starting with chipotle and habanero peppers from Colin's own garden and then adding ghost peppers, one of the hottest chili peppers on the planet, these two added some serious heat to Two Roads Route of All Evil Black Ale and then aged it all in rye whiskey barrels. Be prepared because this winter black ale is about to heat up for spring!
The last beer being released is not barrel-aged but fermented with wild yeast and then aged in stainless steel.
We took our Road 2 Ruin Double IPA wort and fermented it with a Trappist Belgian yeast strain. We then put it into secondary fermentation with Brett for a style we're describing as “Franco-Belgian Wild IPA.” The result is “Road 2 Rouen,” named for the capital of Normandy, in Northern France.
During Two Roads' NorYeaster event, all four of these beers will also be available on tap at the brewery's tasting room (limited supply available) and we'll also be hosting two local food trucks offering the perfect culinary complement to these intense and rare beers.
We are looking forward to this yearly bottle release, rain or shine!
