Anheuser-Busch Hosts Sixth Annual Homebrewers Hop Giveaway

Tom Seiff, Chairman of the A-B Home Brewers Group, welcomes local homebrewersFrom Anheuser-Busch:

On Saturday, December 6, more than 200 homebrewers met at The Biergarten for the Anheuser-Busch Home Brewers Group’s sixth annual hop giveaway. A local favorite, homebrewers this year enjoyed a giveaway of free Cascade hops from Anheuser-Busch’s Elk Mountain Farm in Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho.

Per tradition, several homebrewers brought some of their recent homemade creations to share – including a popular brown ale – or their favorite single-hop brews from brands like Alexander Keith’s. Visitors were also treated to samples of Faust, a from-the-Anheuser-Busch-archives amber pilsner and crowd favorite.

Ben, a homebrewer of five years who came for his first hop giveaway, thinks he may use his bounty to make either a Russian imperial stout or amber ale. Another, a homebrewer of two years, hopes to make an IPA.

One of several employees and members of the A-B Home Brewers Group to join the fun, Rob Bence in IBS, was happy to participate in his third hop giveaway in two years of homebrewing, and is thinking about making a pale ale with his new Cascades.

Davo McWilliams, best known in the local homebrew circle for winning the IPA competition at the Budweiser Brew Fest at Ballpark Village, among other accolades, plans to make an APA with the spoils from his fourth hop giveaway. (Hallertau hops from last year’s giveaway found their way into a Belgian golden ale homebrew.)

Cheers to our local homebrewers, and hope to see you again next year.
