Chicago, IL • November 19, 2014--Following a showing at the 12th Annual Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beers, Spiteful Brewing adds to their series of absinthe barrel-aged beers with the release of Absinthe Barrel-Aged Klutzy Buffoon Saison with Cherries. Aged in Letherbee Distillers absinthe barrels, Klutzy Buffoon benefitted from an addition of tart Michigan cherries. "The tartness of the cherries balances the anise and yeast character of the saison," said Spiteful Co-Founder Jason Klein. "It tastes like a beer cocktail."
Having a relationship with Letherbee--located in the same building as Spiteful--has allowed the brewery to grow their series of absinthe barrel-aged beers. "When Letherbee gave us the first absinthe barrel, we were thrilled. We had no idea we would be able to secure more," said Spiteful representative Calvin Fredrickson. Starting with additional iterations of Klutzy Buffoon, the brewery looks to build on their absinthe barrel-aged beer program. Fredrickson emphasized the unique opportunity the barrels present: "In the words of John Madden, 'We have to capitalize on the field position.' We're lucky to have access to these barrels, and we're going to make the most of them."
Previous absinthe barrel-aged releases include an un-fruited iteration of Klutzy Buffoon Saison as well The Sales Guy Abbey Single. Third in the series, Absinthe Barrel-Aged Klutzy Buffoon Saison with Cherries is 5.8% ABV, packaged in 22-oz bottles, and will see limited distribution across the Chicagoland area this week.
