So let me first say that I’ve been to EVRY single Mohegan Sun Oktoberfest celebration since the very beginning…and let me also say that I try to NEVER review events or beers…however after my evening tonight, I can’t help but be honest with my readers.
If you’re planning to attend the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs Oktoberfest celebration this weekend…save your Okto-Bucks, and stay home.
I’ve tried to stay positive, but after tonight’s experience, I can confirm that it’s pretty much a profit-driven mess that any beer lover will find offensive.
Price of admission…$5…AND what does that get you…pretty much nothing but a wrist band that allows you to buy other stuff. Price of the beer…$7 for a 16oz pour, $9 for what appears to be at 12oz pour in a logo-mug or $25 for a pitcher.
Pretty awful pricing, but if that’s not fun enough, how about getting the wrong beer for $7. Thanks to a monumental F-UP, the Banko tent managed to mix up Yards Cape of God Hope with Beck’s Oktoberfest leaving Yards COGH fans Pissed-off and Beck’s Okto drinkers…..dangerously drunk.
I personally saw a young lady order a pitcher of Becks Oktoberfest that should be 5% ABV, end up with a pitcher of 9.3% ABV YARDS Cape of Good Hope instead.
I can tell you we argued this error with no less than 6 people at the Banko stand before the problem was FINALLY fixed at 9:50PM! This is a monumental mistake that is nothing short or dangerous. (Imagine drinking a pitcher of Beck’s Okto that is actually 9.3% ABV Yards COGH!)
Add in potato pancakes that cost $5 for THREE pancakes and yes if you want sour cream…add in another Okto-Buck….and it’s simply another embarrassing money maker that we should simply avoid.
Anyone that follows me knows I don’t review events OR beer…but I simply can’t help myself. The Mohegan Sun Oktoberfest event is such an obvious attempt to simply make money on the backs of beer lovers, that I would be negligent to not warn all of you in advance.
If you’re thinking about heading out to the Mohegan Sun on Saturday or Sunday…save your $$$ and stay home. I can also confirm that the Weiner Dog Races are the best part of the celebration. Everything else was all about the money and not at all about enjoying a good beer at a fair price.
Want $7 pints?! Want to get the wrong beers for $7 with servers that can’t fix the problem?? Want to pay $5 for three potato pancakes (and another $1 for sour cream)……..? Then I’ll see you at the Mohegan Sun Okto.
Otherwise….spend another $3 and get a sixer for the price of two 16oz pours at the Mo and stay home.
I’m really sad that this event has jumped the shark…BUT IT SIMPLY HAS! This will be the last year I attend until they FIX the pricing…and by “fix” I mean “REPAIR.” Keep your $7 beers, your $5 admission and your ridiculous food prices, I’ll stay home and get the same beers…and I’LL get it RIGHT…and yes it will cost me $2 instead of $7!
Cheers and BUH-BYE To the Mo!
PS if you’re interested in trying a good craft beer….this ISN’T what they cost and this ISN’T what they taste like!!!!!!
PPS They sell Okto-Bucks in sheets of $20…and three beers will cost you $21…hmmmmmmm
