From Stevens Point:
Golfers in the upcoming Joe Pavelski
Charity Golf Tournament will play the Stevens Point Country Club’s
fairways and greens thanks in part to the Stevens Point Brewery,
presenting sponsor of the 2014 event.
Established by San Jose Sharks hockey star and Plover, Wis., native Joe
Pavelski, the sixth annual golf outing will tee off at noon on Friday,
June 27. Pavelski has returned to the Stevens Point area each summer since
2009 to host the tourney, which raises money for the Stevens Point Area
Youth Hockey Association.
“We are proud to support Joe, a fan of our handcrafted beers for years,
and our local community by sponsoring this popular annual event,” said Joe
Martino, Stevens Point Brewery Operating Partner. “Like Joe, we understand
how important it is to give back to the community that supports us”

Stevens Point’s Hometown Stars
Pavelski and the Point Brewery’s award-winning handcrafted beers are
well-recognized icons of the Stevens Point area. Pavelski, who grew up in Plover
, is the very model of both NHL superstar and local sports legend. A star
player in the Stevens Point Area Youth Hockey Association, he was a
member of the Stevens Point Area Senior High team that won the 2002
Wisconsin state boys hockey championship. He went on to skate for the
University of Wisconsin Badgers, including the 2006 NCAA championship team.
Selected in the 2003 draft by the San Jose Sharks, he began his NHL career
with the team in 2006 by scoring a goal his first game, a rare feat. In
the Sharks’ recently completed 2013-2014 season, Pavelski led the team
with 41 goals, making him just the fourth player in Sharks history to
score 40 or more goals in a season. He also led the team in total points
with 79 and was named the San Jose Sharks Player of the Year. In 2010
Pavelski skated for Team USA, Silver Medal winners at the Vancouver Winter
Olympics. Earlier this year, after he was again selected for the Team USA
s quad at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, the City of Plover proclaimed
February 7, 2014, as “Joe Pavelski Day” in his honor.
The Stevens Point Brewery, founded in 1857, is one of America’s oldest
operating breweries. Point’s handcrafted specialty beers consistently win
medals and awards – including 20 during 2013 alone – in prestigious beer
judging competitions such as the Great American Beer Festival, World Beer
Cup, World Beer Championships and U.S. Open Beer Championships.
Point Brewery’s Community Involvement
Although it now sells its beers in 24 states, Point’s fan base begins
right outside the doors of the brewery on Water Street, according
to Martino. “Because a solid home base is important for the success of any
business, we make it a point to be involved in the community where our
brewery has grown and prospered,” Martino said. “One important way we
support our hometown is through local sponsorships, which are also a great
way to thank our customers, supporters and neighbors. Saying thank you
never goes out of style.”
Point Brewery’s area sponsorships and community activities
