From Penn Brewery:
In springtime, a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of… new beers! And we’ve got plenty of them lined up! Here’s a rundown of our new brews:
o Penn Dunkelweiss: Dunkelweiss is a refreshing wheat beer much like our regular Weizen, but brewed with black malt and a touch of Munich malt, giving the brew a complex mix from the esters of the weizen yeast and the roasty notes of the malt. The beer is dark in color, and has an ABV of 5.3%. Dunkelweiss is perfect with sausages, pâté, roasted meats, root vegetables, Chinese stir fry, and Cajun foods. Available on draft mid-April.
o Penn Berliner Weisse: A sour wheat ale with 4.0% ABV. Berliner Weisse is perfect with salads, seafood, bright and lemony foods, cured meats, and bleu cheese. Try adding a little flavored syrup to this beer and drink it the way the Germans do! Available on draft beginning in late April.
o Penn Ginger Beer – We’re really excited about this one! This new lager gets its flavor from freshly grated ginger root that’s added to the boil kettle, giving the beer a subtle aroma and a little kick of ginger that’s lightly refreshing yet pleasantly spicy. With 4.5% ABV, Penn Ginger is brewed with straight 2-row Euro Pilsner malt and a small amount of Hallentau Perle hops (10 IBUs). Available in 24-pack cases, 6 packs, and draft beginning the first week in May.
o Penn Brick Biergarten IPA – this is the beer for all of you hop lovers! Brick Biergarten is an American IPA with a 7% ABV and a blend of seven different kinds of hops (70 IBUs). Brace yourself! Available in 24-pack cases, 6 packs, and draft beginning the first week in May.
o In observance of Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, beginning April 24, don’t forget to sample Penn’s collaboration brew with Fat Head’s Brewery, Alpha MANdarin! It’s a “hopped up” American Style Strong Pale Ale brewed with large amounts of Centennial hops in the mash and the boil, as well as whole leaf hops and 30 lbs of Mandarin orange zest/fruit added to the whirlpool to enhance the citrus notes of the hops. The result? A very enjoyable citrusy pale ale with 6.5% ABV. Available beginning the last week of April.
And if all of those new beers aren’t enough to quench your thirst, we’re also bringing back a couple of Penn spring classics - Penndemonium and Weizenbock. Penndemonium, our German Maibock, contains 7% ABV and will be available in 22-oz. bottles and on draft. Weizenbock, our wheat bock beer with 8.5% ABV, will be available on draft. Look for these old favorites starting at the end of April.
