AleSmith / Cigar City - Ramblin’ Rye & More…

image
From AleSmith & Cigar City:

AleSmith's newest collaboration with Cigar City Brewing recently hit retail locations around San Diego. Only one batch of this 8.5% abv Rye Brown Ale found its way into bottles and draft so ramble on over to the tasting bar to try it fresh off the tap and grab a bottle to go.

This Coast 2 Coast Collaboration brew is a rich, malty roggenbier that is riddled with notes of chocolate and biscuit that perfectly compliment the soft spiciness of the rye. This balanced and complex brew pairs best with smooth cigars and life-long friends.

AleSmith Brewing Co. Wins Award at

World Beer Cup®

San Diego, California

AleSmith Brewing Company claimed a gold award in the 2014 World Beer Cup, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers. Gold, silver and bronze awards in the competition's 94 beer style categories were presented April 11, 2014 during the World Beer Cup award ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Denver, Colorado.

AleSmith was awarded gold in the Old Ale or Strong Ale beer style category for its 2013 Olde Ale, a rich, malt-forward ale that showcases soft notes of currants and dried fruit along with complex dark sugars, all of which are balanced by a subtle bitterness derived from the addition of traditional English hops. AleSmith Olde Ale was first brewed in 2005 as the inaugural introduction into the Decadence Series celebrating AleSmith's first ten years as a fledgling brewery.

Meant to live only one life like its Decadence brethren, Olde Ale was never intended to see another bottling run no matter the appeal and popularity. However, after a five year hiatus the Olde Ale reincarnate was brewed again in 2010 to celebrate the past five years of Decadence with the hope of a cyclical 5 year rebirth as a recurring Decadence Ale.  In 2013, the decision was eventually made to make AleSmith Olde Ale an annual spring seasonal release due to the high demand from our customers and retailers around the country.

"I'm very proud of my AleSmith team with the recent World Beer Cup Gold in the Old Ale category.  The recipe for this beer was first brewed during my amateur days in the 1990's, so this is a nice connection between AleSmith and the home brewing community.  The World Beer Cup is a tremendously competitive event and we're honored to be listed amongst the great brewing names from around the world that compete in this biannual contest." comments Peter Zien, owner of AleSmith Brewing Company.

World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 219 beer judges from 31 countries. Regarded as the "Olympics of Beer Competition," the World Beer Cup saw an impressive field of 4,754 entries from 1,403 breweries in 58 countries. For more additional information, visit the World Beer Cup website.

Fun Fact: Perhaps you have noticed the 2014 bottles are now printed as AleSmith "Olde" Ale, we felt the beer really earned that "e."
