ASHLAND, VA – Wednesday, December 10, 2013. Center of the Universe Brewing Company is getting back to their homebrewing roots by having their inaugural, and Virginia’s first, community wort share. COTU will be giving away 460 gallons of unfermented wort to local homebrewers on Saturday, January 11th. The homebrewers will then take the beer home, boil it, and ferment it using their own ingredients and processes. Six weeks later, on February 23rd, the homebrewers will return with their brews for a competition featuring COTU and local celebrity judges. Along with various homebrewing prizes, the winning beer will be brewed on the big system and distributed throughout Richmond. The winning brewer will get to work along side COTU head brewer Mike Kilellea, as he brews the winning homebrew recipe.
The event, which was announced on December 1, sold out quickly. In keeping with COTU’s commitment to its community and local service men and women, the $5-$10 donation per homebrewer will all be donated to the Chickahominy Fire Department located in the Hanover Airpark.
