The Great International Beer & Cider Competition took place over the weekend in Providence, RI, and Widmer Brothers came home with three awards.
Brrr Seasonal Ale came in first place in the “American Amber” category, and Barrel-Aged Brrrbon 2013 came in first place in the “Strong Ale” category. Alchemy Ale placed third in the crowded “American Pale Ale” category.
These awards mean a lot to our brewing team and the entire brewery. There were 575 beers and ciders entered into the competition from across the United States and around the world. 98 professional brewers, beer journalists, and industry professionals judged the competition in a blind tasting format. To have three beers stand out in this format is a great achievement.
We are especially happy with the new accolade for Alchemy Ale, which was introduced in April of this year and also won Silver at the 2013 US Open Beer Championships. Given the sheer number of beers generally submitted in the APA category, it’s an honor to be recognized in both of these prestigious competitions.
