BEER RELEASES

The Abyss

When:             November

What:              Reserve Series (22-ounce wax-dipped bottles and draft)

It’s hard to believe our brewers have been lovingly creating this magical liquid for eight years now. That’s right, 2013 marks the eighth time that beer fanatics have been able to crack open the wax-dipped tops of these bottles and fall right into the complexity that is The Abyss. This imperial stout is the heart and soul of Deschutes Brewery’s Reserve Series beers, with an endless crevasse of flavor that reveals itself each November (or, if you are the patient sort, whenever this brew is uncellared and dusted off for consumption).

Class of ’88 Belgian-Style Strong Golden Ale

When:                         December

What:              Class of ’88 Collaboration Series (22-ounce bottles)

This is the third and final creation in the Class of ’88 Collaboration Series, a number of commemorative beers to celebrate the 25th anniversary of craft breweries around the country, brewed by Deschutes Brewery and Goose Island Beer Company. This exotic beer was brewed with Michigan Riesling and Oregon Pinot Noir grapes, hops from Mt. Hood and pilsner malt – all aged in barrels that previously held Muscat wine in them for 10 years. Like all the Class of ’88 beers, each brewery will produce its own version of the brew in bottles and draft.

Hop Henge Experimental IPA

When:             December-April

What:              Bond Street Series (22-ounce bottles and draft)

Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA is an annual exercise in pure brewing creativity. Each year, Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. For 2013, brewers cooked up a version including Chinook hops and two as-yet-unnamed experimental hop strains. This commitment to innovation results in a beer that has a full aroma and flavor of citrus plus spicy, herbal notes.

Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale (NWPA)

When:
January- May

What: Spring Seasonal (6-packs, 12-packs and draft)

Multiple time winner of the World’s Best Beer at the World Beer Awards, Red Chair is a smooth ride you won’t want to miss. Named after a classic lift chair at Deschutes Brewery’s home mountain of Mt. Bachelor, you don’t have to carve any turns to enjoy this beer’s subtle aromatic seduction for yourself. Seven select European and domestic malts take a surprisingly plush, satin run on the way to a citrusy hop kick.

Gritty McDuff’s Portland-Portland Bitter Collaboration
In an impromptu add-on to our Class of ’88 Collaboration Series to celebrate shared 25th anniversaries in 2013, our brewer Ben Kehs traveled to Portland, ME to brew Deschutes pub favorite, Bachelor Bitter with the brewers at Gritty McDuffs. In return, Ed and Billy Stebbins from Gritty’s will be brewing their Best Bitter at the Deschutes Brewery Portland pub early next month. This fantastic bi-coastal collaboration will be available in pubs only – Gritty McDuff’s in Portland, ME and Deschutes Brewery in Portland, OR.
