Paulaner  International opens its first U.S. microbrewery, Paulaner Brauhaus & Restaurant NYC (Paulaner Bräuhaus NYC), in New York City’s Bowery in August. This will be Paulaner International’s first brauhaus in the U.S. and the flagship for the development of more Paulaner Bräuhaus establishments throughout the country. The world’s leading exporter of Bavarian beer, Paulaner, under the umbrella of Paulaner Bräuhaus Consult GmbH, operates over 25 microbreweries worldwide.

Located in New York City’s historic Bowery neighborhood, Paulaner Brauhaus & Restaurant NYC is located at 265/267 Bowery in a building once known as Sammy’s Bowery Follies, a popular cabaret in the 1940’s and 50’s. Authentic Paulaner beers brewed on-site will be served with contemporary, artisanal cuisine reflecting the flavors of Bavaria. Copper and steel brewing tanks are showcased in the center of the 9,800 square foot industrial-style space designed by New York based Morali Architects. The 240-seat space features exposed brick walls, 14-foot ceilings and design elements celebrating Paulaner’s Bavarian heritage and the Bowery’s rich eclectic history as Manhattan’s oldest thoroughfare. The lower level will feature a special event space - Sammy’s Bowery Follies Room – seating up to 50 guests for private events.

The Brauhaus
Master Brewer, Andreas Heidenreich, will oversee the on-site microbrewery featuring customized brewing equipment designed by Caspary. The 3-set brew-house has a capacity of 10HL, 8.5 US BBL with an annual maximum production of 2000 HL, approximately 1700 US BBL. The fermentation and storage room consists of two 10 HL cylindro-conical wheat beer tanks, one 20 HL fermentation vessel, two 20 HL flat conical storage tanks and three 20 hl cylindro-conical universal tanks. Total fermentation and storage capacity will be 140 HL. Five 10 HL dispensing tanks directly connect to the tapping unit at the bar. Paulaner’s exclusive beers will be brewed on-site including classic Hefeweizen, Munich Lager and Munich Dark. Select seasonal beers such as “Salvator,” “Oktoberfest,” and “Maibock” will also be featured. Master Brewer Heidenreich will handcraft these authentic Paulaner beers using recipes dating back to the first Paulaner brewery founded in 1634 by Bavarian monks. Paulaner recipes strictly adhere to the German Reinheitsgebot, also known as the Beer Purity Laws, established in 1516 to guarantee that only four ingredients - water, hops, barely and yeast - are used.

The Vision & The Visionary
Paulaner Brauhaus & Restaurant NYC’s President & Founder, Rudy Tauscher, grew up in Southern Germany in a family of brewery owners. After over 20 years in the hospitality industry, Tauscher partnered with Paulaner to return to his roots and pursue his dream of creating a microbrewery and restaurant in Manhattan reminiscent of the brauhauses from his youth. “I spent my summer vacations working in my father's brewery so it’s in my DNA,” says Tauscher. “With Paulaner, everything came together. They wanted to launch a flagship brewery and restaurant in New York -- I know the brewery business and I’ve opened two successful hotels in Manhattan as a General Manager. It is the perfect match. Our vision is the same - to serve guests a taste of tradition - premium quality, hand-crafted Paulaner beers with delicious, simple artisanal foods in a fun, social environment.”
