Today I thought you’d like to get a peek at Southampton Publick House Burton IPA & Keller Pils, and while you may be thinking you’ve seen and sampled these beers already, these are different. While the recipe remains the same, Southampton is now contract brewing these at our very own Susquehanna Brewing Co.
SBC is producing bottles and kegs for Southampton, but I should note the Southampton beers are not using the endosperm mashing system or Hopjack that SBC is known for. SO how are the beers?
While I’m not familiar enough with both beers to detect a difference, I can tell you they both taste great. Keller Pils uses full husks in the mash as I mentioned, with German lager yeast and hops and is not pasteurized. Keller Pils comes in at 5.6% ABV and 30 IBU so it is a really drinkable pilsner style brew with enough body to make it satisfying with a clean finish.
Burton IPA is a more traditional British-style IPA, with the balance leaning toward the malty side. This beer is very drinkable and it has a bold hoppy flavor up front and a malty sweet note at the end. At 6.5% ABV it’s a nice interpretation of a British style IPA and one I think people will really enjoy.
Check these out for yourself. These are two really nice beers and it only helps that they are coming from our hometown brewery @ SBC.
