MAPLE SHADE, NJ /mbb/ – On Saturday, March 2 from 12 noon until 4 p.m., Head Brewer Chris LaPierre of Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (124 East Kings Highway, 856-273-0300) will host his second-annual Barrels, Bourbon and Bugs beer event, featuring special tasting pours of some of their most unusual and special beers. Guests will choose from two samplers (featuring five tasters) and full-sized beers of their favorites, experiencing some of Iron Hill’s bourbon barrel-aged and funky, wild ales.

“Creating interesting and full-flavored beers is one of my favorite parts of being a brewer, and this event is a showcase for some of the best and most uncommon offerings we’ve made at Iron Hill,” says LaPierre. “The name of our event refers to Barrel aging, using Bourbon barrels, or a beer-lovers’ favorite Bug, brettanomyces, a strain of yeast known colloquially as Brett that is often used in aged beers such as Belgian lambics.”

Beer offerings will be grouped into two categories: The Bourbons and The Wilds. Bourbons will include: The Grand Inquisitor, Russian Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels; Bourbon Eisenhugel, a strong, dark Bavarian-style wheat ale aged in a bourbon barrel for nine months; Bourbon 2 Logan TJ, a full-bodied, rich colonial-style ale aged in bourbon barrels with whole vanilla beans; Bourbon Cherry Iron Fish, brewed in collaboration with Flying Fish’s Casey Hughes, an imperial black Belgian-style IPA aged in a bourbon barrel with 40 pounds of wild cherries for four months; and Bourbon Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Great Imperial Pumpkin Ale aged in bourbon barrels with whole vanilla beans. Wilds will include: Wild Quadfather, a strong Belgian-style ale with hints of dark, dried fruit aged in a Cabernet barrel for nine months with wild yeasts; The Chief, a blend of Belgian abbey-style ales aged in a used Madeira barrel; Wine Barrel Wee Heavy, a strong Scotch-style ale fermented in stainless and aged in a pinot noir barrel, spiked with Brett L; Saison Wood, a classic Belgian-style farmhouse ale aged with the DuPont strain and spiked with Brett B and finished in oak; and Oud Bruin, a deep red Flemish-style brown ale with caramel character and refreshing tartness.
