SANTEE, – With the passing of 2012, San Diego’s craft beer culture witnessed the handoff of one of the finest little brewhouses in the region. The sale of Manzanita Brewing’s venerable Brewery 1 (B1) to San Diego-based Butcher’s Brewing begins the next chapter in the story of the little brewery that could, Manzanita’s first.
“It’s a sweet sorrow to let our original brewery go. We built it from scratch, and it carried us from brewing in our garages to where we are today,” stated Jeff Trevaskis, president and co-owner of Manzanita Brewing. “Moving forward, the sale of B1 puts us in a great position to continue with Manzanita’s expansion plans in 2013.”
When it came time to move Manzanita Brewing to its second brewhouse (big new B2), selling B1 turnkey was the only option. “We had a fully functioning brewery at the original location, with a tasting room, fridges, warehousing and all the equipment necessary to walk in the door and start making fine craft beer,” Trevaskis added. “We have high hopes for the guys at Butcher’s, and we’ll work with them every step of the way as Santee’s brewing community grows.”
For 2013, Manzanita Brewing will continue expanding their brewing capacity at B2. The company is also poised to open their new distillery right next door.
