This is a concept we’ve seen in PA with breweries like Shawnee Craft and Nimble Hill, but now Terra Firma Brewery is set to become Michigan’s first farm brewery. Details from MLive:
Brewery Terra Firma, located on 10 acres just south of Traverse City, is nearing completion as Michigan’s first “farm brewery,” a beer-making operation which uses land surrounding the taproom to cultivate hops, honey and other ingredients used to brew and flavor the beer…
With a microbrewery license that allows for distribution, Niedermaier hopes to achieve 2,300 barrels of production in the next couple years, initially distributed throughout Michigan in kegs. As a longtime brewer, Niedermaier said he’s kicking around about 900 recipes for different beers in his head.
