Today we have our first look at Terrapin Side Project #19--Mosaic Single-Hopped Red Rye Ale. I knew when we talked to our pal Spike Buckowski about his use of Rye in the Tom Foolery release that we would likely see Rye in a future Side Project release…and here it is. . Mosaic uses hops harvested from Hop Breeding Co in the Yakima Valley and these hops were picked and shipped fresh from the fields of Perrault Farms to Terrapin. This hop was officially renamed to from HBC 369 to Mosaic in 2011 and it is the daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14) and also a Nugget hop derivative male plant…and this beer uses 100% Mosaic. Mosaic Red Rye will be packaged in 22oz bottles and come in at 6.6% ABV…and I officially love this label. In the words of Spike, “If variety is the spice of life, then hops are the life of beer.”
