A Storm is Brewing at the Pelican

Excitement is building for the highly anticipated Mother of all Storms, a limited production English-style barleywine. Based on Stormwatcher’s Winterfest, our English-style barley wine, Mother of All Storms spent many months aging in Kentucky bourbon barrels.  Now at its peak of maturity, Mother of All Storms delivers flavors of deep toasted malt, raisins, bourbon and oak.  The finish rewards with whispers of vanilla, toffee and caramel.  Best enjoyed with gusts exceeding 60 mph.

"Mother's Day" at the Pelican Pub & Brewery will be Saturday, November 17th, the 2012 official release date of this very popular seasonal brew. Sales of Mother of all Storms will open when the Pelican’s doors open for business at 8am Saturday morning. The Pelican will be offering for sale limited bottles of vintage Mother on Saturday as well as vertical flights of vintage Stormwatcher’s in the restaurant until we run out.

Booking the “Mother’s Day” Package at the Inn at Cape Kiwanda is the only way to guarantee a case of this limited production beer. The “Mother’s Day” Package is for one night only – November 16th, the night before the Mother of all Storms is officially released, and includes a guaranteed case of Mother of all Storms delivered to your room on November 17th – no need to wait in line at the Pelican. Contact the Inn at Cape Kiwanda at 888-965-7001 for more information.

We are delighted to share that the Pelican Pub & Brewery has won a Silver Medal for Tsunami Stout at the Brussels Beer Challenge in the Stout/Porter category in Brussels Belgium. The first Brussels Beer Challenge took place on November 2nd and 3rd, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel in Brussels. 500 beers from 16 countries were judged by a panel of 40 international judges over two days. Brewers from the United States did well, bringing home a total of 43 medals. According to the organizers of the event, “The Brussels Beer Challenge aims to promote the beer industry in a market that is not only a benchmark for beer but also home to connoisseurs. The event dovetails with ‘Brussels, 2012 gourmet food capital’ which provides the ideal setting for promoting products from the global beer industry.” Tsunami Stout is one of the Pelican’s flagship beers having won a number of awards over the years including a recent bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2010 in the Foreign-Style Stouts category. Its midnight black color, rich dark-roasted aroma, full body and dense creamy head is perfect for cold winter nights on the Oregon Coast!

Oyster Cloyster, held at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, is the major fundraising event for the Oregon Coast Community College’s Aquarium Science Program. Twelve Chefs from premiere restaurants on the Oregon Coast put together gourmet culinary creations that were judged by a panel of Executive Chefs and the public then awarded at the end of the evening.
