LONDON--SABMiller PLC said Thursday it has opened its fourth brewery in Nigeria, one of the Africa's biggest beer markets, as the U.K.-based giant ramps up its capacity across the continent.
The maker of Miller Lite and Peroni Nastro Azzuro, and the world's No. 2 brewer by volume after Anheuser-Busch InBev NV , invested $100 million in the site at Onitsha, in the south-east of the country.
The brewery will start production of beer and malt with an annual capacity of up to 500,000 hectoliters, it said. The initial brand to be brewed will be newly launched Hero Lager, followed by other brands including Trophy Lager, Grand Lager and non-alcoholic malt beverages Grand Malt and Beta Malt.
