Bootstrap Brewing Big Mo-Mentus Imperial Amber

imageA new brew is coming our way from Niwot, Colorado's Bootstrap Brewing called Big Mo-Mentus Imperial Amber.  Details from Bootstrap:

NIWOT, Colorado (August 13, 2012) – In early August, Bootstrap Brewing sourced organic hops from Colorado State University’s Specialty Crops Program and Boulder County’s Andrews Family Farm to brew Big Mo-Mentus Imperial American Amber named after their maverick brewer, David Mentus.

Mr. Mentus, a Boulder County brewing veteran has been brewing with fresh off-the-vine hops since 2004. “This opportunity only comes to us brewers once a year and we wanted to it to be a memorable experience for our fans. ‘Big Mo’ is a tribute to the local hop growers and to the passion of U.S. craft brewing. The best part of the process is that we were able source these hops from Colorado organic hop growers and help support an emerging crop for farmers.”

The fresh Chinook hops were delivered from CSU to the Andrews Family Farm who have been working with CSU on hop growing and production for the craft brewing industry. They were then picked off the vine with Andrews’ hand built hop picker, saving hours of time over hand picking. Rich Andrews was able to process the fifty pounds needed for this brew in about 8 hours. Andrews adds, “It was our first run on the picker so we were able to do about 20 pounds the first afternoon and we think we can get 40-60 pounds a day once the process is dialled in”

Within 24 hours of picking the hops, they were added to the thick, ruby-colored wort adding a distinct grassy aspect to the citrusy, grapefruit-like flavor of the hops. Look for this brew to be a powerful dose of malt, hops and above 9% ABV. It will feature brown sugar and caramel malt sweetness with Chinook hop flavor throughout.

Big Mo-Mentus will be released in early September and will be one of Bootstrap Brewing’s featured entries in the Great American Beer Festival in the Fresh Hop Category. It will be sold in the tasting room in glasses and growlers with additional venues at selected outside accounts in the Greater Denver area.
